More info

This second volume of Frottole brings together the first 23 unica in 4 voices from an Italian manuscript from 1502 kept at the Bibliothèque Nationale de France. They are originally religious or secular vocal pieces. The texts being written in ancient Italian - probably an idiom from the Mantua or Ferrara region, where the copyist Lodovico Milliare lived - it was unfortunately impossible for us to reconstruct them. Nevertheless, and as was implicitly admitted at that time, the pieces presented are perfectly adapted to instrumental playing.
